Bottom reference: Maintaining a feel for when the bait is on the bottom vs. above it becomes harder at depth, particularly with significant line in the water. Watch and feel for a change in the bait's fall — the line may relax, go slightly slack, stop falling at the expected rate, or otherwise change as the jighead reaches bottom.
